Electric Vehicle Sales Expected to Reach Highest Level by 2030. A report on e-mobility, prepared by EY in collaboration with Eurelectric, suggests that electric vehicle (EV) sales will reach their peak by 2030, surpassing other vehicle alternatives. It is projected that by 2030, there could be more than 75 million electric vehicles on the roads in Europe alone.

Globally, electric vehicle sales currently account for 16% of all vehicle sales. In 2023, over 14.1 million new electric vehicles were registered, pushing the total stock beyond 40 million. Notably, one out of every five cars sold in Europe is now electric.

The report underscores the need for automotive manufacturers to enhance the range and availability of affordable mid-range electric car models to promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Additionally, it highlights the positive impact of decreasing battery costs on electric vehicle sales figures, following significant price increases in 2022.

By 2030, it is forecasted that approximately 75 million electric vehicles will be on European roads, driven by scaled production, innovation, and a growing second-hand electric vehicle market. The report also discusses the rising demand for electric heavy-duty vehicles (eHDVs) in Europe and the necessity for aligning with carbon emission reduction standards set by the EU.

Moreover, the development of mobile infrastructure continues to support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, with the number of non-residential charging points increasing significantly. The integration of data is identified as a critical factor in the e-mobility ecosystem, facilitating cooperation among stakeholders and improving service delivery.

In conclusion, the digitalization of the e-mobility ecosystem, supported by open data access and transmission, is essential for the seamless integration of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, smart grid technology, and digital services. This integration aims to enhance customer experiences and accelerate the transition to electric mobility.
