“Most Leasing Activities Occur in Technology Products. While electronic waste is rapidly increasing both globally and in Turkey, the rates of product leasing, which provide a solution to this problem, are also increasing at the same pace.

Elif Kapıcı, Co-Founder of Kiralabunu, stated that the majority of leased and used products are in the technology sector, mentioning, “The most leased and used products include technology items such as phones, tablets, computers, and wearable devices.”

In recent years, technology products such as phones and wearable devices have been the most leased items in Turkey. The way to reduce electronic waste, which is among the fastest-growing waste groups globally, is by extending the usage periods of products.

Elif Kapıcı, Co-Founder of Kiralabunu, a company from YTU Yıldız Technopark, aiming to prevent waste dumps by offering electronic devices to users through a sharing economy model, stated, “Among the most leased products are technology items such as phones, tablets, computers, and wearable devices. Seasonally, products like treadmills, scooters, and game consoles stand out, especially during the summer.”

Majority of Users Are Technology Enthusiasts

Elif Kapıcı, Co-Founder of Kiralabunu, stated that short-term needs are a significant factor in users’ product leases, and a significant portion of users consist of individuals who want to keep up with the latest technology trends. Kapıcı continued, “Leasing periods typically range from 1 month to 18 months. Short-term needs are also a significant motivation for leasing.

For example, it is much more sensible to lease special items like a treadmill during the summer or an action camera for a trip compared to buying them. With Kiralabunu, we have created a market in this area and continue to maintain our leadership by reaching thousands of subscribers with a wide range of products and service content in a very short time.”

5 Thousand Products Saved from E-Waste

Kapıcı emphasized that the only way to reduce electronic waste is to extend the product lifespan and stated, “Since our operations started in 2020, approximately 40,000 users have leased electronic devices. As a result, nearly 5,000 products have been saved from becoming e-waste, preventing nearly 15 tons of waste. Our world now needs sustainable consumption habits.

The Z generation, which constitutes a significant portion of the consumer community, attaches great importance to this issue. Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste group globally. In this regard, while using the products we need, we must prioritize sustainable methods.” https://www.sektornews.com/en-cok-kiralama-teknoloji-urunlerinde-yapiliyor/
